ESPN Powerade FAB 50 National Ranking
Ranking Record
Week 4: March 25 35th 3-0 Newcomer
Week 5: April 1 28th 3-0
Week 6: April 8 12th 7-0 Davidson signee Valeriy Sviderskiy scored both goals as Godwin defeated Deep Run 2-1 in a battle of the No. 2 and 3-ranked teams in Richmond.
BIG MOVER: Mills Godwin (Richmond, Va.). A 2-1 win over Deep Run allowed Mills Godwin to jump into the No. 12 spot. Given that four teams ahead of Mills Godwin are guaranteed to take a loss given those teams' potential head-to-head playoff meetings, it is likely Mills Godwin can find itself in the national title chase with an undefeated record.
Week 7: April 15 8th 7-0 Mills Godwin was idle last week.
BIG SURPRISE: Richmond, Va. Yes, this area that generally plays second fiddle to Northern Virginia when it comes to the Group AAA state tournament now has teams in the No. 1 (Cosby), No. 8 (Mills Godwin), No. 17 (Thomas Dale) and No. 22 (Deep Run) positions. Of course, at some point through the district and regional tournaments these will go head-to-head and ultimately only a maximum of two will advance to the state tournament.
Week 8: April 22 2nd 9-0 Mills Godwin and Thomas Dale may be duking it out for No. 1 in Richmond as long as these teams remain perfect. For now, Mills Godwin jumps up in the FAB 50 since it can do something No. 3 Centennial or No. 4 Wando cannot do -- and that's go perfect in a major spring-playing state.
Week 9: April 29 1st 11-0 A loss by Creighton Prep (Neb.) allowed Mills Godwin to become the second Virginia team to occupy the No. 1 ranking this season. Godwin capped a two-win week with an 8-0 win over Tucker, with goals coming from eight players.
Week 10: May 6 1st 12-0 Roman Ogryzko scored three goals as Mills Godwin handled John Marshall 10-0 in the team's only match last week.
Week 11: May 13 1st 14-0 Mills Godwin defeated Hermitage 2-0 and Maggie Walker 5-0 to remain perfect on the season. This week, Mills Godwin faces No. 10 Deep Run in a rematch of two of Virginia's top programs. Mills Godwin's earlier win over Deep Run is the team's lone setback this year.
BIG SURPRISE: Virginia has 14 teams in this week's POWERADE FAB 50. Helping Virginia's showing right now is a lack of regular-season showcase events, resulting in few head-to-head match-ups. However, that will change very soon with the district and region tournaments where one loss will banish a squad from the rankings. Of the current Virginia FAB 50 members, no more than eight will actually make the state tournament as many will be victims in the region tournament.
Week 12: May 20 1st 15-0-1 Mills Godwin hangs on to No. 1 for another week despite a draw with No. 5 Deep Run. The 1-1 match was halted after 60 minutes due to lightning. With the playoffs starting this week, Mills Godwin's situation is simple -- win, and it stays No. 1; lose and the top ranking gets turned over to another program. (Deep Run played to a 1-1 draw with Mills Godwin, the only team that handed Deep Run a loss this season. A third meeting is possible, and that outcome will weigh the most in future rankings.)
Week 13: May 27 1st 17-0-1 Mills Godwin ran its record to 2-0-1 against top 10-ranked Deep Run this season, beating its league rival in the district final. Both teams advance to this week's regional tournament where Mills Godwin, led by Valeriy Sviderskiy's scoring, faces Midlothian. (Thomas Dale might be in position to overtake No. 1 this week if it claims the Central Region title. In order for the Knights to emerge as champion it will likely have to take down No. 1 Mills Godwin in a potential semifinal match.) (Deep Run is 0-2-1 against No. 1 Mills Godwin, but 15-0 against every other school. This week, the team starts regional playoff action against Cosby. Two wins to start the week could give Deep Run another crack at Mills Godwin for the region title.)
Week 14: June 5 10th 18-1-1 Season complete. Virginia Group AAA region semifinalist. Mills Godwin's season ended with a 1-0 loss to Thomas Dale in the region semifinals. Mills Godwin had two wins and a tie in three meetings with top 25-ranked Deep Run. Davidson signee Valeriy Sviderskiy led the team with 36 goals. Alex Krider had a team-best 24 assists. Mills Godwin scored 101 goals in its 20 matches.
